Have you just finished learning and trying a new recipe, but then people are already telling you to learn how to cook another one next? You might be wondering, “Why should I learn more recipes?” especially since you just finished learning one!

Plus, you might have read our recent feature of Chef Joey Prats, where one of his tips is to focus on one product in your food business. So why bother learning to cook more recipes when you already have a winning one?

Well, there are actually plenty of good reasons why you should! Even Chef Joey himself knows plenty of other recipes, not just his Artisan Ensaymadas. Not just him either – all cooking and baking instructors at The Bailiwick Academy, for example, definitely know more than one!

Learning more recipes is actually a good thing, we promise. What are the benefits of learning how to cook more recipes, exactly?

Why you should learn how to cook more recipes

In no particular order, here are answers to your question “Why should I learn more recipes?”

It’s exciting.

Do you find yourself bored with what you make? Or worse, do you find your family getting bored with what you serve them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?

Well, you should definitely learn a new recipe then. Every time you learn something new, imagine yourself drooling over that something new you’re going to make. That idea of trying something new is exciting, agree?

It can also be a fun and rewarding challenge to master new dishes and impress others with your culinary skills. Plus, we’re sure your family will also salivate at the fact that you will present them with something new, whether it’s a meal or a dessert. And since you’re constantly adding variety to your menu, your loved ones will never be bored!

You’ll add to your skills.

You might have a pretty decent set of baking and cooking skills already, but we bet there’s plenty more that you don’t know or don’t have practice with just yet. When you learn new recipes, you’ll probably also find yourself learning new skills, like how to saute, how to cut, and so on.

And as mentioned above, new is exciting! So embrace the new recipes and the new skills you’ll learn alongside!

Learning more recipes equals learning new cuisines.

Being bored means going out of your comfort zone. So for example, if you’re used to Filipino food, you might want to try cuisines from different countries. Why not learn to cook Thai, Singaporean, or Indian food?

Aside from your taste buds thanking you for introducing new flavors to your palate, doing this can also be a fun way to explore different cuisines and even cultures. You might just walk away with a deeper appreciation of a particular food tradition – and a new favorite one at that!

Learning more recipes also equals more savings for your pocket.

Usually, when you don’t know how to make a particular dish or cuisine, you just order from Grab or Foodpanda or go to a restaurant, right? Well, when you know how to make more, you can just make your food cravings yourself – and that means it’s easier on your wallet, since grocery shopping and cooking and eating at home is still cheaper than going out to eat.

Eating healthy is easier to do.

For example, like people on a keto diet, you’re trying to eat healthy and be more conscious about what you put in your body. When you have more flavor options at hand, you’ll be able to make healthier foods, and adjustments to recipes based on what you have. In short, when you know more, you have even more control over the ingredients you can use.

This way, you’ll also feel less guilty about what you’re eating and actually enjoy your food!

You get more offerings for your food business.

Businesses constantly change, and that will include yours if you’re running one. Because if you don’t evolve, you might find yourself being left behind by the competition. Part of evolving and changing is adding to your menu.

For example, you’re running a bakery that sells nothing but pandesal. And if you remember during the pandemic, ube pandesal became a trending food item. Imagine your loyal customers coming over to your store and being disappointed that you’re not offering it.

Wouldn’t they eventually go over to your competitors who have actually expanded their food offerings? After all, it will be more convenient for them to buy what they want in one place.

You don’t have to be constantly learning a new recipe every day, but you do have to know WHEN you should. Having a successful business is a good answer to the question “Why is it important to learn how to cook new recipes?”, agree?

When you learn more recipes, you actually upgrade your old knowledge.

Constant learning is important in life, and this also applies to cooking and baking. You might already know how to, say, cook eggs in different ways, or how to serve fruits. But you never know, when you read up on different recipes and different cuisines, you’ll discover EVEN MORE!

Hey, even chefs and other experts like doctors and lawyers constantly study their craft to learn new things and adjust to changing times. Why not you, right? You never know, you might actually finally find a reason to use the products you purchased or make a traditional dish in a different and more delicious way.

Heck, you might even be able to find how to make fried rice more interesting. The sky’s the limit when you’re constantly studying and learning more recipes!

Where do I get more recipes?

Well, if you’re already a part of The Bailiwick Academy, you don’t have to look far! Just check out the classes on our Courses Page. Select which one you want to try out and go for it!

Of course, make sure you’ve signed up at The Bailiwick Academy if you haven’t yet so you can get the full Bailiwicker experience – and access to these courses.

What new recipes should I learn?

It might be confusing to know what recipe to learn, especially with so many recipes online nowadays. For context, a certain website contains 60,983 recipes published between the years 2000 and 2015 alone! So where do you start?

Well, our suggestion is simple: build on something you already know. That way, it’s less confusing on your end, AND you end up upgrading your knowledge, as mentioned above. You’re just going to be building on what you already know.

That’s especially important if you’re running a food business and you don’t necessarily have time to try out something new.

Here at The Bailiwick Academy, we in fact already have plenty of Part 2 courses that you can use to build on prior knowledge. We have Dimsum 102, Special Celebration Cakes 2, Pinoy Pasalubong 2, and so on.

Speaking of more Part 2 recipes to learn…

To start 2023, our newest class is something that piggybacks off of one of our previous classes. It’s Kakanin Espesyal Part 2 by Chef Chona Laureta!

Picking up from her first Kakanin class, Chef Chona is back with even more native delicacies for you to make:
